Career History

Alex joined Clyde Blowers in 1995 from Ernst & Young, where he had built up 18 years of experience as a Senior Manager with joint responsibilities in Corporate Finance and Audit. This included extensive experience in deal structuring and mergers and acquisitions. Alex had a wide variety of clients operating in a number of industries including oil and gas; engineering, petrochemicals; electronics and food. These clients took him round the globe and he spent periods of secondment overseas, particularly in his role as an upstream and downstream oil and gas expert.

Role at Clyde Blowers

Alex has worked as an executive director within a number of Clyde Blowers companies. Initially Alex was Group Finance Director of the original London Stock Exchange listed Clyde Blowers plc and was a leading member of the management buyout team in 1999 when the company was taken private. He has helped develop corporate strategies both financially and otherwise and has helped lead a number of acquisition and disposal projects within the portfolio; including the rollup of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group, various refinancing initiatives for portfolio companies and the development and ultimate sale of the oil and gas service company CleanCut.

In 2006, Alex became Chief Executive Officer of AIM-traded Clyde Process Solutions plc (CPS) and is responsible for developing CPS’s global performance through its market-driven and customer centric approach across key industries. Initially CPS had been a manufacturing focused, UK based equipment supplier serving a narrow range of markets. The Group has been transformed into a truly solutions based group which provides productivity enhancing, energy efficient and environmentally enhancing technologies to markets such as food, agriculture and grains, metals, minerals and chemicals. It has expanded to become a global business, opening operations overseas, including South America, South Africa and China and acquired a major competitor MAC Equipment Inc in North America. Alex led the disposal of CPS to Schenck Process Germany under a formal takeover process.
