ClydeUnion Pumps (“ClydeUnion”) was formed by the merger of Clyde Pump and Union Pumps in November 2008 when the diverse portfolio of technologies, process knowledge and engineering expertise of both businesses were brought together. ClydeUnion incorporates the product heritage of Weir Pumps, Union Pump, Mather & Platt, DB Guinard Pump and David Brown Pumps.
ClydeUnion was divested in December 2011 to SPX Corporation, a global Fortune 500 multi-industry manufacturing company.
ClydeUnion is one of the world's leading pumping solutions providers employing over 1,800 people. The strategy of ClydeUnion is focused on growth through increasing the geographical footprint, the product offering and the number of target industries and applications for the product.
The business is structured into six business units to increase customer intimacy: Upstream Oil, Downstream Oil, Nuclear Power, Conventional Power, Water & Industrial and Aftermarket. It offers a comprehensive range of pumps including single and two stage pumps, multistage pumps, specialist pumps and reciprocating pumps.
There are eight manufacturing plants; two located in the UK, with further sites in France, Brazil, US, China, Canada and India. In addition there are 23 service centres. There are nine sales regions giving global coverage to all customer activities – Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, China, Middle East & Caspian, India, Russia, Scandinavia & UK and the Global Aftermarket.
ClydeUnion is the seventh largest pump manufacturer in the world and has a top five position in all the markets in which it operates. The main competitors are the global pump companies including Flowserve, Sulzer, ITT Goulds and KSB.
The business operates a flat structure which broadens its exposure to the market, capability and capacity. The networked organisation is headed by Jim McColl, Executive Chairman, with Keith Mitchell and Thomas Burley, joint CEOs.
