Ferguson Marine Engineering Awarded New Contracts with Inverlussa Marine Services

8th January 2019

Ferguson Marine Engineering (FMEL) have secured two new contracts to build ‘Aquaculture Support Vessels’ for their client, Inverlussa Marine Services.

Designed by Aberdeenshire architects, MacDuff Ship Design, the vessels will be based in Scotland and will provide an important resource for the Scottish salmon farming sector.

The first vessel will be 21m in length, over 100 ton and is due to be completed in May 2019. The second 26m Aquaculture Support Vessel will weigh approximately 450 ton and the innovative design features two decks, offering greater flexibility and higher utilisation for future clients. The vessel is due to be completed by late 2019 and will go on a long-term charter for one of Scotland’s leading salmon farmers.

Ben Wilson, Managing Director of Inverlussa Marine Services, commented: “We are looking forward to working with Fergusons and extremely happy that these vessels will be built in Scotland. We have been very impressed with the investment made in the shipyard in recent years.”

Gerry Marshall, CEO of FMEL, added: “We are delighted Inverlussa Marine Services has chosen FMEL to build these two innovative vessels. Due to the extensive investment into creating a world-class facility in Port Glasgow, we are now in a position to offer companies, such as Inverlussa, the option to keep this vital work in Scotland.”

The announcement comes off the back of further good news coming out of the Port Glasgow yard, as FMEL announced in November that work has already commenced on the world’s first self-propelled air cushion barge.
