Newlands Junior College
The Newlands Junior College delivered a new form of education by providing alternative curricular programmes aimed at young persons who may be at risk of disengaging from their current secondary school education but still have the potential to become successful apprentices, useful employees and good citizens.
Each year, the college aimed to recruit 30 pupils from local schools and put them through an alternative approach to their education in years S3 and S4 which, in addition to academic subjects, will combine vocational training and motivational training with sports, nutrition and outdoor activities.
Jim McColl and Clyde Blowers Capital made significant contributions towards the general running of the alternative junior college.
